It's crazy to say that you have a record of 22-3-4 and are in 2nd place in your conference, but that's where the Anaheim Ducks sit, just 3 points behind Chicago.

Tonight, the Ducks welcome in the Detroit Red Wings, who are holding on for dear life in the 7th position in the Western Conference.

If the season were to end today, these two teams would meet up in a 2 vs.7 game in the playoffs, but there's still some hockey to be played in this shortened season.

Game-time is set for 10:00 pm ET at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

5 Dimes Sportsbook currently lists the Mighty Ducks as a heavy -170 NHL odds favorite and the total for the game is listed at 5.5

The matchup of starting goalies is unconfirmed, but a matchup of Jimmy Howard (12-8, 2.48 GAA) for the Red Wings vs. Jonas Hiller (11-2, 2.49 GAA) for Anaheim seems likely.

These teams will meet twice in 3 days and the Ducks are seeking a 14th consecutive at home tonight. Jimmy Howard has been improving during the season and it's not likely that this will be a high scoring affair.

Nothing can stop center, Ryan Getzlaf, not even the flu. Getzlaf has been outstanding this season in leading the Ducks in goals (11), assists (24), and points (35). Getzlaf was a key factor in Anaheim's latest victory, a 4-2 win over Chicago as he set up Bobby Ryan and Teemu Selanne for the tying and go ahead goals late in the game to preserve Anaheim's streak without a loss to 12 games.

Anaheim has come from behind on regular basis. They have the most comebacks through the first 29 games in almost 25 years for any team.

This isn't a team laced with stars when 42 year old Teemu Selanne is one of their best players, but this team has good chemistry and finds a way to win. They're 4th in the league in scoring, 4th in goals allowed, and take advantage of the power play, converting 24.4%. Detroit will need to bring something mighty special to the pond to pull out a victory.

Detroit is coming off of a tough loss in which they outshot a good minnesota Wild team 38-19 but were still doubled up by the Wild 4-2. Time is running low and just 4 points seperate the number 7 spot controlled by Detroit and the number 13 spot, currently held by Edmonton. Simply stated, this is a very important game for Detroit.

The Red Wings have plenty of set up men, but no consistent go to guy during crucial situations of the game. Center, Damien Brunner can somewhat be considered a go to guy, but he's been on a major dry spell with his last goal coming against Vancouver almost a month ago. He still leads the Red Wings in goals with 10.

Key Players

Of course, Detroit will need a near perfect effort out of Jimmy Howard, but look for Pavel Datsyuk to possibly be a factor. He's scored a point in 6 out of his last 8 games and can possibly bring Detroit some offense.

Head to Head Trends

The under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Anaheim

Red Wings are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Anaheim

This should be a low scoring affair and Detroit needs this one in the worst way. From the way that Anaheim has played this season, it's impossible to go against them, especially at home. Lay the juice and take the Ducks for this NHL picks.
