NHL Betting: Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Picks
In the regular season, three of the four contests went to overtime so we’ll see if the Red Wings can at least be a bit more competitive in Game 2.
The Detroit Red Wings can win because…
They’ll be far more rested. While the NHL odds makers aren’t giving the theory much respect, anybody who watched Game 1 saw that the Red Wings were completely gassed by the end of the Game 1. Detroit was level through one period but was outworked and outhustled in the final two periods. That’s evident by the fact that they were outshot 36-14 in the last two periods of the game.
The Red Wings were coming off a grueling seven-game series with Anaheim and had little time to rest. Now they’ve had plenty of time off since Wednesday and should put forth a much stronger effort in Game 2.
The Chicago Blackhawks can win because…
The Red Wings just don’t match up well. Few people have mentioned this but when you start taking a look at Detroit’s defense and goaltending through the playoffs so far, it’s been very subpar. The Red Wings have now given up 25 goals through eight playoff games, which is an average of 3.1 per game. If the Blackhawks are going to be scoring three goals per game in this series, it won’t be a long one – especially when you consider that Corey Crawford has only been allowing an average of 1.3 goals per game.
The Red Wings just don’t match up well. People making their NHL picks know that Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk carried the team through Round 1 but Anaheim didn’t have a shutdown pair of blue liners to shadow this tandem. However, the Blackhawks have that and more. The Red Wings can’t stop the Blackhawks and they can’t score enough themselves. That would seem to be a fatal flaw here.
Outlook & Pick
The Blackhawks have won 12 of the last 16 meetings between the teams and given how the Red Wings goaltender and defense have been in the playoffs, expect those trends to continue. Take the Blackhawks in Game 2.
