We’ve decided to take a look at Monday’s NHL game between Vancouver and Anaheim. Go inside to read our betting preview article on this contest which concludes with an NHL pick on the total.

Pacific Division Showdown on Monday Night
A couple of Pacific Division rivals will meet tonight when the Ducks host the Canucks. The opening faceoff at the Honda Center in Anaheim is slated for 10:05 PM ET. According to current NHL odds at BetOnline, Anaheim is a -165 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These teams met five times last season, Anaheim went 3-2, and four of the five stayed under the total.

Starting Goaltenders
Ryan Miller has been superb in Vancouver’s first two games, evidenced by his outstanding .944 save percentage while stopping 64 of 68 shots on goal. Miller has a respectable 2.88 GAA in five career starts at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Frederik Anderson certainly deserved a better fate in the Ducks season opener at San Jose on Saturday night. He stopped 42 of 44 San Jose shots on goal during a 2-0 Anaheim loss. Anderson has made eight career starts versus Vancouver, and has compiled an excellent 1.22 GAA in those outings.

Canucks Trends and Tidbits
The Canucks are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss on home ice to Calgary in their previous game. Vancouver has seen just six of their previous twenty-seven games go over the total, following a game in which they scored 2 goals or less. They’ve also gone over the total just four times in their last seventeen games when facing a divisional (Pacific) opponent.

Ducks recent Totals Trends at Honda Center
Anaheim has gone 22-9 under the total at home during the last two seasons when the closing total is 5.5. They also saw 15 of 18 home contests stay under the total last season during games 1 through 41 of the year. Both home games against Vancouver during the 2014-2015 NHL regular season campaign stayed under the total, and each ended in identical final scores of 2-1.

Final Analysis
Each of these starting goaltenders figures to face plenty of rubber tonight. However, they’ve both been extremely sharp in the early going, and I look for them to be more than up to the task at hand. I like this to be a lower scoring game, and one of my NHL picks today will be indicative of that hunch.
