The New York Rangers pulled a shocker on the NHL odds when they went into Pittsburgh and stunned the Penguins in overtime in Game 1. Another win will give them a huge leg up in this series but the Pens won’t roll over easy.

The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
They solved the Pens in Game 1. Pittsburgh was held to just two goals as their offense was muzzled. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were held to a combined one point while the Rangers killed off all four Penguins power plays. They dictated the pace of play and now that they did it once, they’re going to be pretty confident about their chances in Game 2.

The Rangers were playing their third game in four nights in Game 1. That means they’ll be on normal rest for Game 2 and should be refreshed.

The Pittsburgh Penguins Can Win Because…
They won’t be sluggish in Game 2. The Rangers were supposed to be fatigued playing their third game in four nights, and the Pens were supposed to be rested, but the game didn’t play out that way. The Pens were in fact very rusty and didn’t start playing until the second period. By that time, they were trailing 2-0. The Rangers were outshot 28-13 from the second period onwards and that’s likely to continue in Game 2.

Look for the Pens to be crisp from the get-go and they’ll tie this series up heading back to New York.

Outlook & Pick
The Penguins took the Rangers lightly in Game 1 – especially the first period. From that point on, they were the better team. Look for more of a complete effort in Game 2, a better performance out of Crosby and the team power play. That should lead to a Penguins win. It’s hard to see this series being 2-0 after Sunday, so take the Pens with your NHL picks.
