The New York Rangers will try and put an end to the Philadelphia Flyers slim playoff hopes while improving their own when the two Atlantic Division rivals square-off this Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. (PT) and it will be broadcast nationally on the NHL Network.

Take a look at our daily NHL odds report.

Rangers Overview

The Rangers have won five of their last seven games including a 3-2 shootout over Toronto last Wednesday as 160 home favorites and a hard-fought 1-0 overtime victory over the Islanders as 103 road underdogs this past Saturday. This late-season surge has them holding on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the East with 48 points. New York is 8-10-2 on the road this season and the total has only gone OVER once in its last five games.

Solid defense is the only reason that the Rangers are still in good position to make the playoffs this season. They are ranked 25th in the NHL in scoring with an average of 2.5 goals a game. Even during this recent upswing, New York has managed to post 21 goals in its last seven outings with 14 of them coming in just three games. The key has been the play of Henrik Lundqvist in goal backed-up by a total defensive effort that is ranked fourth in the league in goals allowed (2.2). In 36 previous games, Lundqvist has recorded a save percentage of .928 and a goals-against-average of 2.06.

Flyers Overview

Earlier this month Philadelphia flirted with making a dramatic run to the playoffs with four straight victories, but followed that up with four-straight losses before pummeling Montreal 7-3 on Monday night as a 165 road underdog. The Flyers return home for this contest where they are 12-6-2 as opposed to a dreadful 6-15-1 record on the road. The total went way OVER the 5.5-goal line against the Canadiens after staying UNDER in four previous games.

Consistency has been this team’s biggest problem all season long. Philly still has enough talent on both ends of the ice to be a playoff team, but it has been unable to play up to this potential on a regular basis. The Flyers past nine games paint a perfect picture of the entire season. They scored 18 goals in the first four games (all wins) and three goals in the next four (all losses) before exploding for seven goals on Monday night.

Rangers vs. Flyers Betting Lines and Trends

The NHL odds have opened New York as a 130 road favorite on BetOnline’s money line with the Flyers listed as 118 home underdogs. The total for this game has been set at 5.

The Rangers are 43-19 in their last 62 games against a team with a losing record and 20-7 in their last 27 games playing on two days’ rest. The total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 14 Atlantic Division games.

The Flyers are 0-4 in their last four division games and 2-9 in their last 11 games played on a Tuesday. The total has gone OVER in 21 of their last 31 games playing on no day’s rest.

Head-to-head in this divisional rivalry, New York has won 11 of the last 12 meetings and five of six games played in Philadelphia. The total has gone OVER in five of the last seven meetings overall. The Flyers won the first meeting this season 2-1 as 101 home underdogs, but have lost the following three by a combined score of 11-5.

Rangers vs. Flyers Free NHL Pick

This game boils down to a must-win by New York against a team it has completely dominated over the past few seasons. Look for the Rangers to add to Philadelphia’s misery in this series with a fourth-straight win as the Flyers once again come out flat after a big win.
