Game 5 of the Rangers vs. Caps series is about to kick off and with the scores tied at 2-2 it really is the big one.

Thankfully, that just means there's plenty more money to win if you follow your Humble Handicapper’s tips.

It looks like it’s home advantage all the way as a out of the last four games each and every single one has gone in the home side's favour. That bodes especially well for Washington who have the two games at home if they need them. But you have to weigh that up against at the fact that the Rangers will be very much full of themselves after a pair of 4-3 victories over on Madison Square Garden.

Look to the Future.

Naturally, this is the best time to say that the NHL odds on the Rangers living winning the Stanley Cup are 2000 and odds on the capital is doing the same are just the same. What’s more Washington takking the Series is at -115, while New York is at +115. And if you want to go a little deeper the series ending 4-3 to Washington is at +240, 4-2 Rangers is at +275. Much as I’d like to see the Rangers do it, for my mate Rich’s sake, I don’t think that he’ll be celebrating next week.

Obviously, whoever you fancy out of these two, bet now as those odds will take a big hit after this game.

The Rangers are playing their cards very close to their chest when it comes to issues of injury and they have remained tight lipped on the matter of defenceman Marc Staal and his availability for game five, not to mention the rest of the series.

Keep up-to-date with the latest hockey news on S BR forum and as soon as we find out whether Mr Staal was likely be taken to the ice will let you know. At present we can confirm that For the Rangers, Darroll Powe is unlikely to feature and the Caps will be are missing Martin Erat and Brooks Laich.

In the last two games, the ones that the Rangers won,  penalties looks to be the deciding factor as Washington gave New York  not four, not five, but six power plays in the third game and four in the fourth game. Penalties may well be a part of the game but if the Washington Capitals can keep their powder a little drier tonight they should be able, coupled with home advantage, move ahead in the series 3-2.

It's worth mentioning at this point that the sports book have this series going the distance at -115 for our NHL picks and it ending after six games at -105.

NHL Free Pick: I'm backing A Washington victory and a 4-3 revenge, available at +2500 with Paddy Power.
