The New York Rangers blitzed the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final Now they have a chance to steal a second game on the road and take a commanding series lead. Can they cash on the NHL odds again in Game 2?

The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
Everything is going right for them. Goaltender Henrik Lundvqist was a wall in Game 1, the offense got going, Rick Nash finally scored and the power play contributed. If you’re a Rangers fan, it doesn’t get much better than that. Now they have a chance to get ahead 2-0.

The Rangers look like a team that’s getting stronger by the day. It’s hard to believe that they got to the third round with a lousy power play, no goals from Nash and minimal contributions from Chris Kreider (due to injury). If those three facets get going, this team is going to the Stanley Cup finals.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
Game 1 was simply a bad outing. The Habs shot themselves in the foot time and time again in Game 1, and they literally couldn’t have played worse. The good news is their problems are correctable. They’re normally a very disciplined team but they took seven penalties. Normally, their offense is very productive but they only had 22 shots. And normally, they’re the offensive aggressor but in Game 1, they didn’t really get going until the second period. These were aberrations from the norm. Things will get back to normal in Game 2.

The Habs need the first goal. That alone will change things up in this series. New York is a very different team when they’re forced to play from behind. Look for Montreal to start better in Game 2, correct their mistakes and to even up this series. Take them with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick
The Rangers looked great in winning Game 1’s in Rounds 1 and 2, but each time the series were 1-1 after two games. Expect the same here. As long as Carey Price is healthy and starting in Game 2, take the Habs. They’ll get back on track.
