The New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens both extended themselves to seven-game series in Round 2. The good news is they get a couple of nights off before Saturday’s Game 1. Montreal is favored on the NHL odds for the opening contest of Round 3.

The New York Rangers Can Win Because…
Henrik Lundqvist is on fire. He had a shaky performance in Game 4 of Round 2 but since then, has been a man possessed. He’s allowed just three goals in three games, and that was against the Pittsburgh Penguins, who were the second-highest scoring team in the conference. Clamping down on the Habs should be much easier.

The Rangers are a great road team they finished with the fourth-best road record in the NHL. Going on the road to the Bell Centre in Game 1 won’t be anything overwhelming. After all, they did just win Game 7 on the road in Pittsburgh.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
The Rangers don’t play well in Montreal. The Habs have won five of the last six times the Rangers visited. Actually, they’ve won five of the last six meetings overall too shutting out the Rangers four times in those games while holding them to just two goals in total.

Lundqvist does not seem to do so well against the Habs as his 2.85 GAA and .897 save percentage are his second-worst in each category against any team in the NHL. Look for Montreal to set the tone and take Game 1.

Outlook & Pick
After playing a very physical team like Boston, this matchup should be much easier for the Habs. They’ve won seven of the last 10 meetings overall and will make it eight of 11 on Saturday. Take them with your NHL picks.

Pick: Canadiens 5Dimes
