According to current NHL odds, the Jets are a -150 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5. Nashville has defeated Winnipeg in 4 of their last 5 meetings. However, the home team has won 4 of the last 5 in this series. What can the sports betting odds tell us about this game?

Predators Looking Good

Nashville enters tonight having won 3 of their last 4. Their only loss in that sequence was in an overtime shootout 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings. Last night the Predators captured a huge win at Montreal 2-1. Fourth overall choice in the 2013 NHL entry draft Seth Jones broke a 1-1 ties with a dramatic winning goal with just 1:27 to go in regulation. It was the prized rookie defensemen’s 2nd career NHL goal. Pekka Rinne was strong in goal stopping 28 of 29 Canadians shots on net. The Predators will be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights, and their 4th in 6 this evening. Nashville is just 27th in the NHL scoring a paltry 2.0 goals per game despite accumulating 30 or more shots on goal in each of their last 5-games. The Predators are the best in the NHL on faceoff draws winning an excellent 55.9% of those puck drops.

Inside the Predators Numbers

Despite last night’s win, and dating back to last season, the Predators are just 6-17 in their last 23-games overall. They’ve really struggled on the road going 5-21 in their last 26 games when leaving the Music City. It doesn’t get any better when they play their 4th game in 6 days as they’ve gone a miserable 5-16 in their last 21-games in that scenario. In addition they’ve gone 1-6 in the last 7 when playing with no rest.

Home Stand Winding Down for Jets

This will be the Winnipeg Jets 5th game of a 6-game home stand. They’ve gone 2-2 so far and entertain Washington on Tuesday to conclude their prolonged stay at home. The Jets do come off a momentum-building win over a very good St. Louis Blues team on Friday night in a 4-3 overtime shootout victory. The Jets rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the 3rd period on goals from Evander Kane and Tobias Enstrom. The goal by Enstrom was his 1st of the season and it tied the game at 3-3 with just 1:54 to go in regulation. One area of concern in tonight’s game is the huge advantage that the Predators will have in the faceoff circle versus the Jets. Nashville is the best in the NHL in that category while Winnipeg is next to last at just a 44.6% success rate.

Inside the Jets Numbers

The Jets need to find some consistency as they’ve gone just 1-4 in their last 5 following a win. On a positive note Winnipeg is a perfect 6-0 in their last 6 versus an opponent with a road winning percentage of less than .400. Winnipeg has seen 5 of their last 6 games overall go under the total.

Final Analysis

Based on the following NHL system over the last 5 seasons I have a small lean on the road underdog tonight for my hockey picks. Any money line road underdog of +100 to +200 that’s converted on 17.5% or more of their power play attempts on the season, and has had 30 shots or more on goal in each of the last 5-games is 52-26 (66.7%).
