The Montreal Canadiens continue to struggle as they come in off a bad 6-2 loss at Dallas, which was their 7th loss in their last eight games, while the Nashville Predators come in off a hard fought 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild, which snapped their three game losing streak. Let's review what the NHL odds are offering:

The Canadiens Continue to Slide
The Montreal Canadiens are in freefall mode right now as they come in having lost seven of their last eight games, which includes a 6-2 loss at Dallas on Saturday night. This is a Habs team that lead the NHL in points for a long time, but now they have fallen five points behind the Washington Capitals in the East. They are having issues at both ends of the ice right now, but mainly it has been at the offensive end where their issues have really surfaced. This was a top five offensive team for much of the year, but now they have averaged just 1.7 gpg in their last 10 games, compared to the 3.0 gpg they have put up for the year; horrible offensive play.

The play in goal hasn’t been that strong of late as they have allowed 2.90 gpg in their last 10 games, compared to the 2.38 GPG they have allowed on the season. In the 6-2 loss at Dallas on Saturday, it was Mike Condon that allowed all six goals, before he was replaced in the third period by Dustin Tokarski. Condon is now 9-10 on the year after he had started at 6-1. Tokarski will get the start here and he is 1-2 with a 2.95 GAA on the year and this will be his first ever meeting with the Predators. The Canadiens are clearly in trouble and not just offensively, but in the crease as well. They really need Carey Price to get healthy and get back to helping his team.

Preds Grab Big Home Win vs. Minnesota
The Nashville Predators have been sliding as well of late as they come in having won just five of their last 16 games, but one of those wins was in their last game which was vs. Minnesota. That game was at home, and the Preds won 3-2. The Preds actually had a 3-0 lead in the game before Minnesota made a small comeback. The Preds got first period goals from Filip Forsberg (7th) and Mike Ribeiro (4th) who also had an assist in the game. Speaking of assists, Shea Weber had two of them in the win as well.

Grabbing the win for the Preds was Pekka Rinne, who saved 20 shots in the win. Rinne is now 13-15 with a 2.38 GAA overall for the year, while at home he has gone a solid 10-6 with a 1.99 GAA. Rinne has good numbers vs the Habs, going 4-2 with a 1.32 GAA vs them in his career. The Preds check in at 19th in the league in scoring, putting up just 2.5 gpg, while also ranking 9th in power play conversions (20.5%). On the defensive end of the ice, they are 17th in goals allowed, giving up 2.5 gpg and 28th in penalty kill (76.2%)

Trends for Montreal:
1-6 in their last seven after scoring two goals or less in their previous game
0-4 in their last four vs. the Western Conference

Trends for Nashville:
12-5 in their last 17 vs. the Atlantic
44-21 in their last 65 home games

Betting Analysis
The Canadiens are in trouble right now as they have lost three in a row and eight of their last nine, and they will have trouble getting back on track here vs a Nashville team that has played pretty well at home. The Canadiens have now been outscored 12-3 in their last three games, while the Preds come in off a confidence building win over a solid Minnesota team on this Ice. I feel that the Preds will help keep the Canadiens on their losing streak. Keep that in mind for your NHL picks.
