The Chicago Blackhawks will finish off their annual circus trip at the Staples Center on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Kings. Let's work on our NHL pick now.

Blackhawks Seek More Balance
The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Sharks by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday night as right-winger Patrick Kane tallied a point for the 17th consecutive game in the win. His two assists on Wednesday put him at 34 points (13G, 21A) through 22 games this year. The right-winger has developed impressive chemistry with linemates Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov so far this year. In fact, Chicago’s second line (Kane’s unit) has scored 47% of Chicago’s goals. Coach Joel Quenville shook up his line prior to Wednesday’s game against San Jose in search of more balance, electing to split up Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. It will be interesting to see how the Blackhawks address the need for more balance as the season wears along. There is still a prevailing opinion that the team might be seeking an external solution. Chicago has been getting calls on Trevor Daley recently and could move one of its defensemen prior to the trade deadline.

Kings Lose another Close Game
As of Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles Kings remain atop the disappointing Pacific Division standings with 27 points. The Kings come in having lost three of four, including a 2-1 shootout loss on Wednesday night against the Lightning. It was the eighth time in the last ten contests that the final score in a Kings’ game was decided by just a single goal. The Kings were able to salvage a point after Milan Lucic tied the score at one by netting his 7th goal of the season with 5:23 remaining in the third period.

Trends:
The Blackhawks are:

Over is 5-0 in last 5 vs. a team with a winning record against the NHL odds.

Over is 6-1 in last 7 road games.

Over is 9-2-1 in last 12 overall.

The Kings are:

Over is 5-0-2 in the last 7 meetings in Los Angeles.

Over is 9-1-2 in the last 12 meetings.

Over is 4-1 in last 5 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days.

The Kings have one of the NHL’s stingiest defenses, ranking 3rd in the NHL in goals against (2.1 per game) and 6th in penalty kill percentage (84.9%). That being said, Patrick Kane has tallied a point in 17 consecutive games, which bodes well for the over. These two teams have reached or exceeded the total in 11 of the last 12 matchups against one another. Take the over on Saturday night as your NHL pick.
