We’re going to hone in on what the best NHL betting option will be in tonight’s game between the Sabres and Bruins and share our free NHL pick on the puck-line.
Sunday Night Atlantic Division Clash
The Boston Bruins will host the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday with the opening faceoff slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, Boston is a huge -285 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the third meeting of the season between these Atlantic Division rivals, and the Bruins won each of the first two that were both played in Buffalo. The Bruins went 3-2 against Buffalo a season ago.
Getting back to Old Habits
The Buffalo Sabres shocked many NHL observers including myself by going on an impressive run that saw them win 10 of 13-games. However, they’ve dropped 2 in a row heading into tonight. More importantly, it was the manner of which they lost those 2-games. The Sabres were blown out by identical scores of 5-1 at Winnipeg last Tuesday, and at home versus the Colorado Avalanche last night. They’ll be facing an opponent (Boston) tonight with a money line record of 16-17 this season. In a mind boggling trend regarding the Sabres, they’ve gone an abysmal 13-39 the past 2-seasons when facing an opponent with a losing record. Buffalo has seen each of their previous 5-games go over the total with an average of 7.0 goals combined per contest scored.
Things are a bit uneasy in Boston
The Boston Bruins are one of the early enigmas of the NHL season. Saying that they underachieved at this point would be an enormous understatement. The Bruins enter tonight having lost 4 of the last 5, 7 of the last 9, and 9 of their last 12-games. On the bright side, they will be facing an opponent tonight which has a penalty killing success rate of 79.1%. Boston has gone a terrific 26-6 the past two seasons when facing an opponent that’s 82.5% or less in that specific category. The Bruins haven’t seen any of their previous 5-games go over the total, and have averaged just 2.0 goals per contest during that time.
The Sabres will be missing key players from their lineup tonight due to either illness or injury. This is an already a very thin roster in regards to NHL talent to start with, and having a shortage of manpower doesn’t bode well for their chances heading into tonight. If the Bruins are ever going to be able to establish some momentum, tonight will be a golden opportunity for them to do so. I’m going to utilize the puck-line in this contest to make one of my NHL picks for today.
