The Toronto Maple Leafs are +125 road dogs according to the NHL odds when they face their Ontario rivals, the Ottawa Senators. Toronto just got back into the win column last night. What's the best bet?

The Toronto Maple Leafs Can Win Because…
They finally got their offense untracked. The Leafs forwards have been asleep at the wheel most of the season but played one of their best games of the season last night. That’s likely to carry over.

Other than the Leafs two wins against New York teams where they scored a total of 11 goals, they have scored just 10 goals in their other five games. However, last night everything seemed to click. Phil Kessel had two goals and an assist, James van Riemsdyk scored and even David Clarkson got into the act with a goal. If they can put forth a similar effort, they’ll have a great shot to win.

The Ottawa Senators Can Win Because…
They’ve looked really sharp to start the season. NHL betting cappers have seen the Sens pick up wins in four of their first five games. More importantly, their defense and goaltending has looked very crisp. They are allowing just two goals per game so far, which is quite impressive. Craig Anderson has a .939 save percentage while Robin Lehner is a .950.

Even though the Leafs got the win last night on Long Islander, their goaltenders just aren’t of the same caliber. Both have GAA’s close to 3.00 and the defense is suspect. A disciplined Sens team that will be fresher should take advantage.

Outlook & Pick
Although the Sens have been the better team this season, there really isn’t a huge difference between these sides. Laying -145 on the NHL odds is a bit too steep – even if the Leafs are in a back-to-back situation.

I’ll take the under for one of tonight's NHL picks as the Sens goaltending should dictate the pace and produce a low scoring affair. Only one of their five games has seen more than five goals and Wednesday should be another under.
