We preview and share our free NHL picks for tonight's matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Have we found any lines on the NHL odds boards worth jumping on?

The Edmonton Oilers’ nightmare start to the season continues. On Monday, they lost 4-2 in Washington to the Capitals and now have a tough back-to-back situation as they travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Supposedly a team on the rise, the Oilers have lost five of six and look worse than they did last year. They have to find a way to be competitive very soon or their season could start circling the drain very soon.

Record: 19-32 (-969)

The Edmonton Oilers can win because…

The Pittsburgh Penguins only loss this season came against Florida. While it’s not much, that’s what the Oilers have to hang their hats on. Right now, they are struggling big time and the only thing they can hope for is that the Penguins overlook them as they did the Panthers last week. In that situation, the Pens were throttled by a count of 6-3 in their only defeat on the season.

If Pittsburgh takes the Oilers seriously, there’s little chance the Oilers win. The Pens are a whopping -240 favorite on the NHL odds, which makes them the biggest favorite so far this young season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins can win because…

The Oilers can’t stop a puck right now. People who make their sports picks know that the Oilers have been an absolute train wreck between the pipes this season and that isn’t likely to get any better against Sidney Crosby and company. The Oilers have allowed 29 goals so far, which is the most in the NHL. That means they are giving up 4.8 per game. Meanwhile, the Pens have 20 goals so far this season and they are averaging 4.0 goals per game. This is the perfect matchup for them.

Outlook & Pick

The Oilers stink, they’ve given up at least four goals in every single game this season and they are in a back-to-back situation on the road playing the Stanley Cup favorites. This is not the ideal spot for them. There’s no way you can lay the juice with your NHL picks here, but you can definitely lay the puck line or bet the over because of how many goals the Oilers have been allowing.
