There are just three games on the schedule for Friday night, which means we’ll be picking all three. You can catch our multi-pick article separately where we cover the other two games and below we’ll examine the NHL odd for the Oilers-Blues contest.
Record: 60-69 (-690)
The Blues skate into tonight's matchup with a -170 price tag, with some books offering them at -165. NHL odds makers have also set the total at 5, and given each of these teams recent form, we should be able to expect a low scoring game.
The Edmonton Oilers can win because…
The Blues are in a back-to-back. On Thursday, the Blues played at home hosting Chicago and now they have a quick turnaround to face the Oilers. If that wasn’t enough of a hurdle, going from the Blackhawks – the top team in the NHL – to the Oilers should be. It will be tough for the Blues to gear up for a visit from the Oilers as it was for the top-notch Blues, so that should give an edge to Edmonton.
The St. Louis Blues can win because…
The Oilers are in a complete tail spin. Edmonton started the season with wins in four of their first six games on the season but has been lost at sea ever since. They’ve won just three of their 12 games since and enter Friday’s matchup as losers in three of four.
The Oilers are having a really tough time scoring goals as they’ve scored seven in their last four games. They’ve scored two goals or less in nine of their last 12, which should play into the hands of the defensive-minded Blues quite well. Entering Thursday’s meeting with Chicago, the Blues had given up just four goals in their last three games.
Outlook & Pick
The Blues have been spotty of late, and while they’ll probably win, I feel that laying the -170 with them is too risky of an option for our NHL picks. The puck line is an option but since the Blues played last night, I’m not so interested. I’ll stick with the Under as this figures to be a low-scoring game.
