Montreal vs. Buffalo

There are high expectations in Buffalo for this upcoming season. Many believe the Sabres have a realistic chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 2010. However, the mood has been temporarily dampened due to recent key injuries. Highly prized offseason free agent acquisition Kyle Okposo will be sidelined for the season opener while recovering from a severely bruised knee. Then in Wednesday’s practice, every Sabres fans worst nightmare occurred when 19-year-old second-year star Jack Eichel appeared to suffer a rather serious ankle injury. Not to mention, all-star center Ryan O’Reilly is deemed questionable due to an abdominal injury.

The news is far from bleak in Montreal. After all, superstar goaltender Carey Price returns after missing the majority of last season due to a knee injury. Price is fresh off leading Canada to their recent World Cup of Hockey title.

I firmly believe the road team will have a solid edge in this game, and they’ll be one of my Thursday NHL picks at one of the top online betting sites.

NY Islanders vs. NY Rangers

The Rangers should have no excuses this season. This is a talented and deep roaster that should be considered an early Stanley Cup contender. Conversely, I’m not overly enamored with this current Islanders roster. That’s especially the case when comparing it to last season’ team which advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It’s the “Blue Shirts” in their home opener for one of my Thursday NHL predictions at SportsInteraction, which is presently offering 75% cash bonuses on all deposits of up to $1000.

Washington vs. Pittsburgh

It will be a special night in Pittsburgh, and fans will witness their 2016 Stanley Cup champion banner being lowered from the rafters. This is always one of my favorite betting situations, not only when making NHL predictions, but in all main stream sports. I like to go against a home team required to sit through a pregame ceremony, and one that recognizes a championship they attained the season before. Emotions from the crowd and players reach a fever pitch during those festivities, and it even continues throughout the early portion of the game. Then like clockwork, it all dissipates, and the home team is eventually flatter than a pancake, while the crowd becomes emotionally drained.

Washington finds themselves in an ideal situation on Thursday. After finishing first overall and winning the President’s Trophy a season ago, their postseason run came to a premature end. It transpired as a result of an Eastern Conference Semifinal series loss to these very same Pittsburgh Penguins. That sour tastes they’ve had in their mouths for an entire offseason can finally be alleviated and during a season-opening game no less, the oddsmakers took notice when placing the NHL odds.
