Calgary is trying to catch San Jose in the Pacific, while Colorado really has to pick up the pace to reach the playoffs but face a very beatable team.

Calgary Heats Up the Rangers at Home

N.Y. Rangers (28-29-13, 28-42 SU) at Calgary (43-20-7, 43-27 SU)

Friday, 9:05 pm ET

Free NHL Pick: Flames Puck Line

Best Line Offered: You Wager

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3493504, "sportsbooksIds":[139,999998,1096,169,238], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Calgary has won its last two contests, yet, is 6-4 in the last 10 tries, which is not good enough when looking at San Jose. The Sharks have won eight of 10 and six straight to take over the lead in the Pacific Division and claim the best record in the Western Conference.

The Flames will look to close their narrow lead and have an opponent the NHL odds say they should win with ease. Depending on the sportsbook or bookie of choice, Calgary is a chalk-laden -290 to -300 money line favorite against the New York Rangers.

The Blueshirts were expected to have a tough season and delivered in spades, at 14-games below .500 when looking at true wins and losses. The Rangers are not a threat to finish last in the Metropolitan, as New Jersey has a strong grasp on that placement, but at -32 in goal differential, this is not close to a good club.

Unless you are feeling especially reckless or downed multiple 5-hour energy bottles, taking the Rangers on the money line is at best risky. Instead, we look into the puck line, with New York at either +1.5 (-110) or Calgary at -1.5 (-110).

The Rangers have only beaten the Devils once in their last nine games. Yet, in their eight losses, six were by a single goal, which gives credence for taking them for NHL picks. Nevertheless, after scoring 14 goals over an eight-game stretch, the Flames offense has torched opposing goalies for 15 goals in their last two contests.

Calgary has more than enough firepower to explode and would seem to be able to light the lamp in the final minutes if protecting a one-goal lead to win by two.

Anaheim Provides Colorado Some Relief

Anaheim (28-34-9, 28-43 SU) at Colorado (30-28-12, 30-40)

Friday, 9:05 pm ET

Free NHL Pick: Avalanche Money Line

Best Line Offered: You Wager

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3493498, "sportsbooksIds":[139,999998,1096,169,238], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Truthfully, not even sure we should be talking about Colorado on these pages. With 72 points, they are closer to last place in the Central (Chicago 71 points) than to make the postseason (Arizona 75 points pending last night's results). Still, if, and it's a big if, if the Avalanche can use tonight to start a three, maybe four or more games winning streak with 12 to go, they give themselves a chance.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Barbs, the Dino Hunter!#GoAvsGo ;/a>
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) March 14, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Being able to play Anaheim helps the Avs cause and Colorado was sent out as -170 favorite. There is plenty not to like about the Avalanche in this spot, like an 11-19 record after losing two out of their last three. However, on a positive note, after being shutout like they were Monday night against Colorado, they are a super 6-0 when they take the ice the next time.

The Ducks were in the desert on Thursday and have a litany of bad news with the way they have played. Since the middle of December, Anaheim has three losing streaks of at least five games and one that more than doubled that (11). They have recently played better to pull out of the cellar in the Pacific. Big picture, nobody is running to the betting window to place bets on the less than mighty Ducks.

If you need one more reason to not take Anaheim, since starting 3-1, the visitor in tonight's tilt has lost five in a row playing the backend of back to back encounters.
