Evening NHL Odds Update

Heavy hearts in Boston

With all of the drama unfolding in Boston, officials have decided to postpone the Bruins' game with Pittsburgh tonight.

Originally, Boston had been favored at -130 to get the win, and our Mike Richardson had predicted a 4-2 win for the Bruins. That's all moot now though, with the game tentatively scheduled to be made up on Saturday afternoon.

What that means for NHL cappers is there are just five games to examine closely before making your final sports picks of the day.

Lawrence's Three-Pack

David Lawrence has another edition of his NHL picks of the day and he has honed in on three picks on the side this time around.

He likes the number on the New York Rangers as they take on the Buffalo Sabres on the road. The Rangers have won three of their last four and have been one of the top five teams on defense so far this season.

The Sabres have been able to win three in a row, while going 6-3 over their last nine, but Lawrence thinks New York will have more motivation here and is therefore selecting them to get the job done.

Next, Lawrence is picking on the Nashville Predators once again as they tangle with the Chicago Blackhawks in the Windy City. The Predators have lost seven straight games and have nothing to play for other than pride, while the Blackhawks are trying to keep playing at a high level as they get ready for a possible deep postseason run.

Instead of backing Chicago on a chalky ML line of -260, Lawrence feels the public would be better of rolling with them to win by two or more goals, which is more appropriately priced at +110. With the Blackhawks firing on all cylinders, it's going to take something wild for them to lose this one against Nashville.

To finish off his plays of the day, Lawrence is picking another road team. This time it's the Edmonton Oilers who are getting the love as a short dog price of +110 over the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche have lost seven of their last nine and are a horrible 4-11-3 over their last 18 overall, yet the Oilers have been in even worse form as of late, losing six consecutive games. Ultimately, Lawrence thinks Edmonton will end the winless streak in the Pepsi Center tonight.

Calgary Flames/Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks are not playing anywhere near the best hockey right now, but they're still favored at -165 over the Flames, in Calgary no less.

While Lawrence agrees that Anaheim should be the favorite, he's questioning whether the odds are where they're supposed to be. He thinks there's some good value on the home team here and is recommending readers to play the Flames at an estimated price of +142. Calgary has won three of four and has gone 4-2 over their last six and will be looking to keep momentum high on their home ice.

Biggest ML Favorites

Chicago Blackhawks (-260) vs. Nashville Predators

St. Louis Blues (-170) vs. Dallas Stars

Anaheim Ducks (-155) at Calgary Flames
