NHL Value Picks for Saturday
Panthers at Devils
The lowly Florida Panthers (9-16-6) will be gunning for their 3rd consecutive win tonight when they take on the New Jersey Devils (14-11-6) at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Online sportsbooks such as Bovada have pegged the Devils as heavy 2 to 1 (-200) money line favorites on the NHL odds boards, which is a clear indication that the oddsmakers are familiar with the Panthers lack of success in this head to head matchup. The Devils are a staggering 22-8-1 in the last 31 meeting against the Panthers when hosting them in New Jersey.
If you are looking to make a play on the total, depending on the direction you choose, -115 is the price to pay on the over, while -105 is the number on the under. There might be some value on the under in this contest, as Florida has been involved in low scoring games as of late, including four of their last five overall. Additionally, two of the last four meetings have remained under between these two, with two more ending in a push.
The Panthers own a dismal road record, going just 6-15 in their last 21 games on the highway. But, the reality is when you are a bad team it doesn’t matter where you play, as they are also 8-22 in the last 30 overall.
Meanwhile, the Devils hardly boast numbers to be proud of, as they are only 4-10 in their last 14 games overall, 1-5 in their last 6 that follow a victory and 0-5 in their last 5 played on a Saturday.
That said, the value for me in this contest is on the total. Florida owns the worst defense in the NHL and New Jersey will be able to capitalize on the Panthers misfortunes – especially on their home ice - en route to what should turn out to be a high scoring affair.

Blues at Oilers
The St. Louis Blues (16-11-2) will meet up with the Edmonton Oilers (11-11-7) when both teams collide on the ice at Rexall Place in Alberta tonight; but which squad holds the value on the NHL odds boards?
The Blues are positioned as -135 money line favorites at most online shops, but they are just 2-5 in their last seven games played on the road.
The total for this one is coming in at 5 ½ goals, but the price is steep for the under, which is currently at -140. While the Oilers are 15-6-6 under in their last 27 games played at home, four of the last five meetings between these two have gone over the posted total.
The Blues own some nice numbers, including 17-4 in their last 21 games played on a Saturday, 10-3 in their last 13 versus the Northwest and 5-2 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Oilers are only 8-20 in their last 20 games played at home, 13-38 in their last 51 games played on a Saturday and 2-6 in their last 8 when facing a team from the Central.
St. Louis offers more value as a road team in this one then Edmonton does on their home ice; so backing the Blues is the right side tonight.
