Record: 6-12 (-295)
The Edmonton Oilers are favored on the NHL odds for this contest but at this point, you’d have to question laying any juice with them. They’ve lost their first two games of the season but more important than that is the fact that they’ve allowed a whopping 11 goals. Heading into Monday night’s affair, Oilers lead goaltender Devan Dubnyk has a ridiculous 6.53 GAA along with a .831 save percentage.
On the flip side, you do have the choice of taking the Devils with your sports picks in this one. They, too, have yet to win a game this season as they were blanked 3-0 on the road by the Pittsburgh Penguins and then lost 4-3 in a shootout at home to the New York Islanders. They have looked a bit disjointed with so many new forwards in the lineup. Four of their six shooters in Friday’s shootout are new to the team.
The Oilers will get Ryan Nugent-Hopkins back in the lineup for this game and I think that’s what’s going to tip the scales for the over here. I can’t lay juice with the Oilers at home given how they’ve looked so far and I can’t trust the Devils on the road either. However, the Oilers goaltending has been pitiful so far and with Nugent-Hopkins back, their offense should be improved as well. Take the over with your NHL picks here.

The Rangers are in a tight spot as they are forced to start the season on a nine-game road trip. They won’t play their first home game until October 28th – 21 days from now – when they host the Montreal Canadiens. The nine-game road trip started on the West Coast with a loss to Phoenix and now the Rangers are in Los Angeles on Monday night. Although they are introducing a new head coach and a new scheme, they aren’t exactly being eased into the season. They only mustered one goal in a season-opening loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.
On the other side, there’s the Kings, who gutted out a win in Minnesota (3-2) and then lost in Winnipeg (5-3). This will be their first home game of the year. Last season, they were throttled in their home-opener by the Chicago Blackhawks, so you can bet that that will be on their minds on Monday.
My hunch is to lay the juice with the Kings as the Rangers offense didn’t impress me much in their first game. They’ll likely have a tough time scoring in Los Angeles as well as their defense and goaltending is above average.
The 'Under' might also be worth a look with your sports picks in this game, but I’ll trust the Kings in their home-opener.
