Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers
The Lightning continue their road trip with a stop in New York. They’ve alternated wins and losses over their last six games, so coming off a defeat, are they set for a win at Madison Square Garden?
The Tampa Bay Lightning can win because…
They should get goaltender Ben Bishop back between the pipes. If you’ve been following the Lightning and using them for your NHL picks, you know just how valuable Bishop is. As a matter of fact, he’s not only a Vezina Trophy but also an MVP candidate. The Lightning are 22-5-3 with Bishop between the pipes and are just 5-10-1 without him.
The Rangers are playing well but the stats show you should go against them on the NHL odds. They are just 7-13 when at home with a total of five this season and 7-13 against teams with a winning record.
The New York Rangers can win because…
They’re playing their best hockey of the season. The light bulb has gone on for the Rangers as they’ve won three straight and eight of 11. One of those wins was in Tampa Bay. They tend to go as Henrik Lundqvist goes and it’s no coincidence that the team is winning games when their goaltender has allowed just eight goals in his last four outings. The Rangers offense has also been playing well as they’ve scored at least three goals in five straight games.
They’ve won three of the last four home meetings between the teams and six of the last nine matchups overall. They’re the right choice in this one.
Outlook & Pick
This one is a toss-up. The Rangers are playing well right now while the Lightning should put forth a better effort on Tuesday with Bishop back – especially after losing in Columbus on Monday.
The price tag online sportsbooks placed on the Rangers is too expensive, so I’ll take the over instead. The over is 11-5 for the Rangers this season when at home with a total of five and the over has cashed in five of the last six for Tampa Bay.
Pick: Over 5 at Pinnacle
