The Montreal Canadiens host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday at the Belle Center. The NHL odds are out; which side are we on?

According to NHL betting odds Montreal is a -165 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5. Montreal has defeated Tampa bay in each of their last 4 meetings. The home team has won 6 of the last 8 in this series.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

Stand up and raise your hand if you thought the Tampa Bay Lightning would be 12-5 in their first 17-games this season. If you did so, I will take an educated guess that you are either a pathological liar, or just plain delusional. In any event the Lightning was involved in the only game on yesterday’s NHL slate. They played a rare weekday afternoon game at Boston in accordance with the Veteran’s Day holiday in the United States. Tampa had their 4-game win streak snapped at the hands of the Bruins losing 3-0. The Lightning has bounced back with wins following all of their previous 4 losses this season, outscoring the opposition in the process by a combined 17-8 in doing so.

A Much Needed Win

The Canadiens were able to snap a 4-game losing streak in their last outing at home on Sunday defeating the Islanders 4-2. Besides the win, it was also a huge relief for the Canadiens to be able to break through by scoring 4-goals in the contest. Prior to that scoring outburst, the Canadiens had scored 2-goals or less in 6 of their last 7-games. Carey Price continued to be sharp in goal stopping 24 of 26 Islander shots. After a shaky finish to last season Price has settled in nicely to start the year posting a very good 2.20 GAA, and a .929 save percentage.

NHL Super System

Any money line favorite in the month of November, versus an opponent that’s won 4 of their last 5-games is 48-16 (75%) since the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. My lean for my NHL pick here is on the Montreal Canadiens.
