The Tampa Bay Lightning’s once promising season looks like it’s coming to an end. Trailing the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 in their first-round series, they’ll need a miracle. Are they worth a look for your NHL picks as they get desperate in Game 4?

NHL Playoffs Eastern Conference Bracket Breakdown

The Tampa Bay Lightning Can Win Because…
They have desperation on their side. The Lightning have their backs up against the wall and that can serve as plenty of motivation. They’ve felt some pressure of having to do too much with Ben Bishop being out of the lineup in the sense that they feel they have to overcompensate for his absence. Maybe being in an elimination get will help them get over that.

This has been a close series as two of the three games were decided by a goal. The Lightning just need to catch a break or a bounce, and that might lead to them finally getting on the board.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
The Lightning have no answers. They’re still without star goaltender Ben Bishop, they can’t seem to protect Anders Lindback and now their offense has gone cold. The Lightning have allowed at least three goals in each and every game in this series while they’ve scored just three goals in their last two games combined.

Although Tampa Bay will be desperate, it doesn’t mean they’ll have the solutions to overcome the hurdles they’ve struggled with through the first three games. This series is over on Tuesday.

Outlook & Pick
The Lightning are just a few bricks short of a load here. They’re without Bishop and they’re facing a team that is deeper than them. On top of that, they’re on the road. Unless Bishop is back for this game, don’t expect a different result.

I look for Tampa Bay to throw everything but the kitchen sink at Montreal in this one. That should lead to more offense, so I’ll take the over for my NHL picks. It’s just too much juice to lay with Montreal here.
