Who would have thought that nearly a quarter way through the 2013-14 NHL season, that the Tampa Bay Lightning would have more points than the Boston Bruins? That’s exactly the case as the two sides square off in the only game in the NHL on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Lightning can win because…

They are the team that’s playing better right now. People who make their NHL picks should note that Tampa Bay has won seven of eight and currently have the most points in the Eastern Conference. Goaltending has been their calling card as they’ve allowed just eight goals in their last five games.

Boston is just 3-4-0 in their last seven and they have two home losses in that stretch (to Dallas and to New Jersey). Tampa Bay is better than those teams.

The Boston Bruins can win because…

They still have the better goaltending. Tuukka Rask has been unconscious this season, posting a 1.63 GAA so far. He’s been even better against Tampa Bay as he’s compiled a 0.75 GAA while winning his last four starts against them.

The Bruins simply dominate this series. As evidenced twice earlier this year, the Bruins won both meetings by a combined score of 8-1. They kept Steve Stampkos pointless in those contests and muzzled the offensive efforts of the Lightning. That’s why you should add them to your sports picks.

Outlook & Pick

The Bruins are 6-3-1 at home this season but the Lightning are a healthy 5-2-0 on the road. That just lends itself to taking a shot with the Lightning on the NHL odds.

Tampa Bay has played very well to start the season at both ends of the ice and they’ll be a handful for the Bruins. Either side can win it but given the value, I’ll add the Lightning to my NHL picks.
