The San Jose Sharks continue to sink as they enter Thursday’s contest with Los Angeles as losers of four straight. Can they get a win here or do we go against the NHL odds and back the Kings?

By some miracle, they are still just one point out of a playoff spot and if they can somehow regain that spark that led to seven straight wins to start the season, they might be able to salvage their season.

Record: 83-92 (-335)

The Los Angeles Kings can win because…

The Sharks are an absolute gong show these days. They have lost four straight and have just four wins in their last 18 games, not at all a solid ML NHL betting option.

The biggest issue with San Jose is goal scoring. It’s borderline shocking that the Sharks have a starting goaltender with a goals-against average of 2.01, which is sixth-best in the NHL, yet they can’t seem to buy a win these days. The reason for that is offense because the Sharks have scored the fewest goals in the NHL.

San Jose scored 29 goals in their first seven games (4.1 per game) but has since managed just 29 in their last 18 games (1.6 per game). The streaking Kings have been playing well at both ends of the ice and should have no problem keeping the Sharks miserable.

The San Jose Sharks can win because…

They play well against the Kings. The Sharks took four of six meetings last season and the Sharks should have the edge in net. Antti Niemi is 3-1-0 with a 2.11 GAA in five home outings against the Kings. Meanwhile, Jonathan Quick is has lost all three of his starts at HP Pavilion while posting a GAA of 2.56.

The Sharks have been a respectable home team this season, as they are 7-1-4 in their own confines. That’s enough reason to think twice about the Kings as a road dog.

Outlook & Pick

There’s no way I’m laying any juice with the Sharks right now. They are absolutely terrible. They’ve lost five of seven at home while the Kings have won 11 of 15 overall. Although the Kings don’t have a great track record in San Jose, they are worth a play given that the NHL odds makers are offering them up as an underdog.
