The Los Angeles
Kings Can Win Because…
They’ve got all of the momentum. Not only did the Kings pull the rug from under the Ducks in Game 1, that was now they’re fifth straight win. As for the Ducks, they’ve now lost three of their last five games.
Anaheim has some issues between the pipes as they benched Jonas Hiller for Round 1 but benched Round 1 starter Fredrik Andersen for Round 2. However, Hiller gave up two goals – one at the end of regulation and one in overtime – to hand the Kings a 3-2 win. They cannot be confident about their situation between the pipes right now. As for the Kings, they have Jonathan Quick who played well. The Ducks averaged 3.33 goals per game in Round 1 but only scored two in Game 1. Quick has given up just seven goals in his last five games and that’s a huge edge that the Ducks can’t get around right now.
The Anaheim Ducks Can Win Because…
They outplayed the Kings in Game 1. Let’s face it: the Ducks were seven seconds from having a 1-0 series lead. 90 times out of 100, they hold that lead and everything is fine. This is a veteran team that knows that and they aren’t going to panic. They’ll just do more of what they did in Game 1.
The Ducks had four power play opportunities in Game 1 but failed to score. If they can be a little more efficient in that realm and tighten things up on defense – especially late in games – they’ll even up this series.
Outlook & Pick
At this point, I’ll take the Kings with my NHL picks again. They’re a road dog but I think they’re the better team. They have momentum, the better blue line and the better man in net. That could lead to this being a shorter series than expected.
