The Los Angeles extended themselves in a seven-game series with the San Jose Sharks in Round 1. Luckily for them, they have a couple of days off before facing Anaheim on Sunday. Let’s take a closer look to see who’ll cash on the NHL odds in Game 1.

The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because…
They have the better goaltender. The Ducks aren’t really sure who to go with right now. They chose Fredrik Andersen to start the first round but he posted a 3.40 GAA. They could opt for Jonas Hiller but he allowed 30 goals in his last 10 regular season games.

The Kings have a big edge in net right now. Jonathan Quick struggled at the beginning of his first-round series but he allowed just five goals in the final four games. He’s got it together and he’ll give the Kings a huge edge.

The Anaheim Ducks Can Win Because…
They trampled the Kings in the regular season. These two west coast rivals faced off five times and the Ducks took four of the meetings. The two teams played low-scoring affairs – just as the Kings like – combining to average 3.8 goals per game in the regular season, yet the Ducks still triumphed. Quick has a career .905 save percentage against the Ducks, which is just so-so. Anaheim’s offense is on fire right now, scoring 20 times in six games. That’ll continue to work for them as they take Game 1.

Outlook & Pick
This will be an even series but I expect the Kings to start this series better than they did Round 1. That’s why I’ll take them with my NHL picks. They’ll find a way to earn at least a split with the Ducks in the first two games.
