With alarming regularity Monday has come round again, but this week starts with a great opportunity to win some money from the hockey sportsbooks when the LA King take on the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Boomtown Rats might not have liked Mondays but your Humble Handicapper is pretty keen to start the week with a win after a decent shout on Sunday. Yours truly was ever so slightly robbed on Sunday when two out of his three hockey predictions came up trumps, the only side that let me down (the NY Rangers) at least had the decency to push it to a shootout against the Washington Capitals.

Enough with the bragging rights…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

This should be an absolute belter of an encounter even though both sides are coming from defeats in their most recent games. The LA Kings are still, obviously, the current Stanley Cup holders but their first Stanley cup in their 45 year history is in real danger of looking like a freak of nature as their season thus far has hardly impressed. The Chicago Blackhawks, by comparison who won that trophy just a couple of years ago will be in just the sort of mood to get their mitts back on it. Especially after losing ground in the standings in their last game.

Sweet home Chicago

Chicago is the venue and I think the Blackhawks will take full advantage of being on home ice against the Kings. It's not just how advantage that points towards a Chicago victory as at present they are 24-3-3 while LA are 17-12-2 so far this season. However injuries to Chicago mean it might well be anything but an easy win for the home side.

Still the NHL odds makers have the Kings coming out on top at +125 while the Blackhawks winning any way shape or form is a -138. If you'd like to consider the possibility of this game ending tied in regulation you can also bet on a draw after three periods at +260, but if you rather bet on there being a clear winner when the final buzzer goes the Kings are at +210 and the Blackhawks at +114 on a regulation win.

Story of the scores

Looking at the shortest correct score odds for this game makes very interesting reading as the three shortest odds offered up by most online sportsbooks or all on the game ending tied 22 is a +825, 3-3 is at +1100, 1-1 is at +1300. The next odds after that in terms of the correct score are all in favour of the Kings and you'd have to go as high as +1750  to see a Chicago win with a 3-2 scoreline.

Recent form points towards Chicago as they have won their two previous meetings with LA this season and will be very keen to make it three out of three. The most recent victory was a 32 Chicago when despite a one-man comeback attempt from (almost namesake) Mike Richards who scored two goals in the final third, but couldn't find a third goal to tie the match and force overtime. The first meeting between these two sides was) start the season in January where the Blackhawks won 5-2 to get their season off to a winning start.

Adding up all those goals from those two games and dividing by two you will have quite a clear average of six goals per game and I think it's certainly worth adding the Over 5.5 goals to your NHL picks, which is offered up by the sports books at mines and 75 or by comparison you can bet on the game going under 5.5 goals which is at +125.

Free Prediction: The game ends drawn, 3-3 available at +1100 but as I'm feeling generous I'm going to say that the Blackhawks will take it in OT.
