The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens were two of the quieter teams on trade deadline day and their respective fans are wondering whether that will come back to haunt them.

NHL Betting: Jets Clash With Canadiens

The Jets have been sinking in the standings and could have used a boost while the Canadiens appear to be in position for a Stanley Cup run and could have bolstered the lineup. Nonetheless, the two sides get back to action on Thursday in Montreal.Which one should we side with for our Hockey Picks?

Record: 110-120 (-289)

The Winnipeg Jets can win because…

The Habs could be gassed. Montreal played in Philadelphia on Wednesday night and was thumped 5-3. Not only will they be in a back-to-back situation on Thursday night but it will also be their third game in four nights as they hosted Carolina on Monday.

The Jets have played well against good competition as they are 9-6 against teams above .500 this year. They should be a little fresher for the contest and could surprise the Habs – and many bettors – in this spot.

The Montreal Canadiens can win because…

They have owned the Southeast Division this season. The Habs have won all 10 contests against Southeast foes and they’ve dominated the Jets at the Bell Centre recently. The Habs have won six of the last seven meetings overall and four of the last five in Montreal.

The Jets are struggling big time as they’ve lost four straight and six of eight. They were hoping that a trade deadline acquisition could change their momentum but that never happened. Now they have to go to Montreal and upend the NHL odds.

Peter Budaj is expected to be in net for the Habs and he’s won his last five appearances while posting a GAA of 1.60.

Outlook & Pick

This looks like a good spot to take a shot on the puck line. The Habs dominate this series and aside from Wednesday night’s hiccup, they have played well recently. The Jets have lost by at least two goals in each of their last seven losses so this appears to be worth a shot with my NHL picks.
