The New York Islanders visit the Energy Consol Center in Pittsburgh on Friday to take on the Penguins. Find out where we've decided to place our cash for this nights matchup!

According to current NHL betting odds the Penguins are a -210 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5. Pittsburgh is 23-5 in their last 28 at home versus the Islanders. These two teams met in last season’s Eastern Conference quarterfinals with the Penguins winning in a hard fought 6-game series.

Time for another Win Streak

The Penguins had their 4-game win streak snapped on Sunday in a 1-0 home loss at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche. Pittsburgh dominated play territorially in the loss outshooting Colorado by a wide 34-14 margin. Jean-Sebastian Giguere was brilliant in goal for Colorado, and Gabriel Landeskog’s goal in the 2nd period was enough for the Avalanche win. Pittsburgh stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni

Malkin combined for 15 of the Penguins 34 shots on goal. Marc-Andre Fleury is scheduled to be in goal for the Penguins this evening. Fleury is 7-1 in his starts on the year with a stellar 1.74 GAA and .930 save percentage.

Need to Right the Ship

The Islanders enter tonight having dropped 2 in a row, and 5 of the last 6. In their last game on Monday they suffered a 5-4 overtime home loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The Islanders were able to force overtime on a goal by Frans Nielsen with just 1:12 remaining in the 3rd period. Matt Moulson added a pair of power play goals in the loss. In a real rarity all 6 losses by the Islanders this season were by just 1-goal. In addition 8 of their first 9-games were decided by 1-goal. The Islanders have gone over the total in 25 of their last 36 games versus an opponent with a winning record. Evgeni Nabokov is scheduled to be in goal for the Islanders this evening. Nabokov has started in all 9-games this season posting a 2.80 GAA and a .905 save percentage.

Final Analysis

The Islanders are a much better team than their record may indicate with 3 of their 6 losses this season coming in overtime or a shootout. The Isles proved a season ago they’re not intimidated in the least by playing the mighty Penguins, giving them all they can handle in last year’s postseason. NHL history has favored the money line underdog for their NHL picks in this situation. Any underdog coming off a game in which both teams scored 4 or more goals, and their opponent comes off a game where both teams scored 1-goal or less is 29-17 (63%) since the start of the 1996-1997 year.
