Two teams that have zero momentum right now will meet on Tuesday night when the New York Islanders meet the Washington Capitals. Take a look at the value NHL picks we found.

While both sides had so much promise entering the 2013-14 season, they unfortunately occupy the two last spots in the Metropolitan Division standings.

The New York Islanders Can Win Because…

The Caps can’t beat anyone these days. Sure, they’re coming off a 6-5 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings but that was only their fifth win in their last 18 games. They’ve given up at least three goals in each of their last four games, which means the Isles and their slumping offense should have a good shot to turn things around here.

Washington has had a very busy schedule over the last week, which is why you should think twice about laying the juice here on the NHL odds. This will be their fifth game in eight days in their fourth different city. As for the Isles, they’ve been regrouping and resting since Friday.

The Washington Capitals Can Win Because….

They’ve won three straight in this series. There aren’t a whole lot of positives on either side here but at least you can look back at the history between these two teams and see that the Caps have dominated at home. They’ve won 23 of the last 35 times they’ve been the host. That’s a vote of confidence for adding them to your NHL picks.

On top of that, the Isles are a miserable team these days as they’ve lost five straight coming into this meeting. No other team in the NHL has a longer losing streak right now. As usual, their goaltending/defense are letting them down as they’ve coughed up 22 goals in their last five. Alex Ovechkin, who leads the league with 39 goals, must be licking his chops at the thought of this matchup.

Outlook & Pick

Both teams are slumping right now, so that’s going to keep us away from the side. Instead, I’ll add the over to my sports picks as neither team plays much defense. Both teams allowed at least three goals per game in the month of January.
