Our NHL picks expert does a deep dive into Game 6 of the Panthers/Islanders series on Sunday. Go inside before making any move on this game today.

Florida vs. NY Islanders 7:05 PM ET
Florida will attempt to stave off elimination in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Islanders. Sunday’s game will be played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Conversely, the Islanders will be out to capture its first playoff series since 1993. The road teams have gone 3-2 in the series. The last two games ended in identical 2-1 scores, with Florida winning Game 4 in Brooklyn, and the Islanders taking Game 5 via overtime at the BB&T Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Current NHL odds at Wagerweb.com has Florida as a -111 moneyline road favorite, and the posted total is 5.0.

Put Up or Shut Up for Panthers
You can make the case that Florida could’ve won this series already with a couple fortunate bounces, opposed to being on the brink of elimination. The Panthers came up on the short end of both games that went overtime in this series. They blew a pair of 2 goal leads during Game 3 in Brooklyn before losing 4-3 in extra time. They then put themselves in a disadvantageous position by losing 2-1 in overtime during Game 5 at home. They’ve managed to come up short three times in this series despite having 39 or more shots on goal during each occasion. On a positive note, Florida has gone a respectable 23-20 during away games this season, and that includes 7-3 in its last ten road appearances.

Islanders on the Cusp
It’s been a long time since Islanders fans have been able to celebrate winning a playoff series. As a matter of fact, it’s been 23 years to be exact. They’ll have a glorious opportunity to end that postseason futility today on home ice. They’ve gone a solid 26-17 at the Barclays Center this season. Backup goaltender Thomas Greiss has filled in admirably for injured Jaroslav Halak during this series. Greiss has started all five games, and compiled a stellar .937 save percentage. He was phenomenal during the Islanders road win in Game 5, stopping 47 of 48 Florida shots on goal. He’ll have to be sharp once again on Sunday for his team to close out the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Final Take and Pick
Thomas Greiss seems to be gaining more and more confidence as this series has progressed. On the other hand, Roberto Luongo hasn’t been bad at all, but I have very little faith in his ability to perform well during games of this magnitude. Although it’s just my own personal perception based on past NHL betting experiences, I’m confident that statistics pertaining to Luongo will back up the claim. I’m going with the home underdog on Sunday for one of my NHL picks.
