The Philadelphia Flyers snapped their three game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Carolina in OT, while the New York Islanders come in have lost two in a row. Check our NHL pick here.

Gostibehere Lifts Flyers in OT Win Over Carolina
The Philadelphia Flyers took a 2-0 lead over Carolina in the 2nd period of their game on Monday night behind goals from Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn, but they couldn’t hold the lead as Carolina scored two goals to tie it in the third period. From there it was all Shayne Gostisbehere, who needed just 24 seconds in the extra session to notch his second goal of the year and lift the Flyers to the 3-2 win. Just scoring any goals for the Flyers was big as they had been shutout in their previous two games.

The Philadelphia offense has struggled all year as it is dead last in the league in scoring, putting up just 1.8 gpg, while also ranking 23rd on the power play (15.6%). Grabbing the win in the game was Michal Neuvirth, who is now 4-4 with a 2.07 GAA on the year. Steve Mason should get the start in this game and he is 3-10 with a 3.08 GAA on the year and is 5-4 with a 2.25 GAA in his career vs the Islanders.  The Flyers are 22nd in goals allowed (2.8 gpg) and 18th in penalty kill.

Islanders Lose Two to Canadiens
The New York Islanders are coming off a home-and-home series with the Montreal Canadiens and walked away with two losses. On Friday night it was a 5-3 loss and then on Sunday they fell by a score of 4-2. The Islanders have been slumping overall as they have won just four of their last 12 games. Thomas Greiss took the loss in both games and is now 5-5 with a 2.26 GAA on the year. Jaraoslav Halak should be in goal for this one and he has gone 5-5 with a 2.13 GAA on the year. He actually started game one of the Montreal series, but was pulled after allowing three first period goals.  He has gone 7-3 with a 2.44 GAA vs the Flyers in his career.

Scoring for the Islanders in Sunday’s loss was Anders Lee (4th) and John Tavares, who notched his team leading 10th goal of the year. The Islanders have been a solid offensive club this year as they come in ranked 10th in the league in scoring, putting up 2.8 gpg, but they have had issues on the power play, where they are 22nd in the league. On defense they have been decent, ranking 12th in goals allowed (2.5 gpg) and 11th in penalty kill (81.8%).

Philadelphia is: 13-40 in their last 53 road games & 16-36 in their last 52 vs. a team with a losing record

New York is: 9-2 in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400 & 4-0 in their last four vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400

Yes the Flyers have owned this series of late, but that won’t happen tonight. The Flyers are just a bad team and they are even worse on the road. The Islanders come in off BB losses to Montreal and will be looking to bounce back vs a team that they should easily beat. Islanders will be the NHL pick on this one against the NHL odds.
