The Carolina Hurricanes are mired in another bad slump. Unfortunately for them, that’s become all too common during this miserable season. If they’re to snap out of it, they won’t get any freebies as they visit the top team in the NHL on Sunday.

The Carolina Hurricanes Can Win Because…

You don’t always know what you’re going to get with the Ducks. Sure, they’ve won three straight but prior to that, they had lost four of five. The Hurricanes best chance here is to hope that there are still some lingering effects of that slump.

Other than that, there aren’t many good reasons to take the Hurricanes with your sports picks.

The Anaheim Ducks Can Win Because…

The numbers point to it. They are 19-4 when at home with a total of 5.5, 21-5 when facing a team with a losing record and 8-1 in Sunday games. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are just 9-17 when facing a team with a winning record.

The Hurricanes are a calamity right now. They’ve lost 3-1 in Los Angeles on Saturday, which now makes it four straight losses. The bigger issue is that they’re not scoring goals with just five tallies in their last four games. On top of that, they’re in a back-to-back situation on the road, it’s their third game in four nights and they might again be without Alexander Semin, who is their hottest forward. Take the Ducks with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick

The Ducks are clearly the choice in this one but I’m not going to lay all of that juice on the NHL odds. Instead, I’ll take a shot with the Ducks on the puck line. With the Hurricanes having a really tough time scoring these days, it gives the Ducks a reasonable chance to cover the spread.
