NHL Picks: Hurricanes vs. Canadiens

When two NHL teams on winning streaks meet, something's got to give and when the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Montreal Canadiens we could have a classic clash on the ice this Monday night. But winning $$$$ is just a click away.

The Hurricanes are on a three game winning streak where they’ve clocked up 13 goals and conceded just seven, while the Canadiens have a very tidy three-game winning streak of their own where they have scored nine goals and conceded just four. I'm willing to bet that one of the sides will make it four from four, the only issue is who it will it be. And speaking of streaks I’d be doing myself a disservice if I failed to mention that I was bang on with my last NHL betting prediction.

Enough with streaks…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

At home against The Toronto Maple Leafs last week the Hurricanes made it three wins out of three on Saturday night. The Leafs had won four straight games before they took on the Canadiens, and (for the record) their last loss was a 4-1 defeat back on February 4th against, the Hurricanes. The best NHL odds on that score are available at the SBR Forum.

Looking at the last 10 games make slightly confusing reading for a Canadiens supporter while they are the sort of team who quite comfortably beat a side like the Buffalo Sabres 6-1 there are also the type to come 5-1 unstuck against the Senators within 72 hours of each other. The word topsy-turvy springs to mind as well, as the Canadiens then went on to get 2-1 revenge on the Sens, before going down by the same score against the Bruins.

Toronto wakeup call

However it was the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the was the biggest shock to the system for the Canadians and it was also the first time in recent memory that they'd failed to find the back of the net. They're back with a vengeance, on three wins from three and are expecting to start stringing more wins together. The Canadiens are -137 to add a fourth win to their streak.

Goals to be scored

I think the safest choice for your NHL picks in this game is to put some money on there being more than 5.5 goals (check out the best odds at the SBR Forum) as, excluding their last 3-1 victory against the Leafs the ‘Canes haven't been involved in a game with fewer than six goals since 8 February when they beat the senators 3-2. And haven’t had a game with less than five (again discounting the Leafs’ match) since 2nd February. Betting on over 6.5 might also be worth a punt.

You might be wondering if I'm just procrastinating as I don't want to put my money where my mouth is and pick a winner in this game and that's an utterly laughable thought because with all the confidence of a man who is about to toss a coin I shall now predict what is going to happen in this match.

Tosser!

The coin has been tossed and I have decided that the ‘Canes will come out on top on Monday night, available at +115. I'm going to go further and say that the second period will be the busiest.

Prediction: Carolina win 4-2, head on over to the forum to catch the best odds and maximise your winnings.
