Record: 80-90 (-455)
Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils
The Flyers and Devils have both been huge disappointments this season. The Flyers are a train wreck at both ends of the ice while the Devils season has been torpedoed by the injury to Martin Brodeur.
This is surely an ugly game to bet. On one hand, you can take the Flyers as a dog and hope that their sense of urgency – they’ve publicly stated that they are primed for this home-and-home series with New Jersey – means something. They’ve lost three of four, so that urgency doesn’t mean much to me.
Or you can bet a Devils squad that has lost seven of nine. Without Brodeur, they’ve come completely unglued. The Devils have played 26 games this season and in the 13 with Brodeur, he’s allowed 30 goals. In the 13 without him, they’ve allowed 45.
I don’t really want to bet the Flyers but with Brodeur out, that’s the tipping point. The Devils are just not a good team without him.
NHL Pick: Flyers +111 at Pinnacle for your NHL Picks.
Detroit Red Wings at Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames continue to be a train wreck. They publicly spoke about how important Monday’s game was to them and then proceeded to get smacked around – again – in a 3-1 loss.
Detroit has lost two straight but both losses were to Columbus. As odd as it sounds, the Blue Jackets seem to have Detroit’s number this year. Aside from those two losses, the Red Wings are 5-1-1 in their last seven.
There’s no way I’m betting Calgary in any way, shape or form. Detroit is not a good road team but at a pick, I’ll take a shot.
NHL Pick: Red Wings -105 at Bodog
