NHL Picks: Hockey Picks of the Day

Sunday features just three contests in the NHL and we’ve got a common theme with our picks. I’m expecting three low-scoring affairs in each of them and you can find out the reasoning below.

NHL Betting

Record: 119-142 (-1654)

Chicago Blackhawks at St. Louis Blues

Anytime you get the top team in the NHL as a betting odds underdog, you have to consider it. The Blackhawks come into this contest playing very well as they have won four straight and are 7-1-1 in their last nine. The Blues are coming off a loss but had won six straight before that.

I think the best play in this game is the under. 5.5 is high for how well these teams have been playing defensively. I’ll take the under.

We’ve also got a full article previewing this game, so make sure you check that out if you’re looking for more insight on the game.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Buffalo Sabres

This is an awful game to handicap. The Lightning come into this game after losing four of their last five including a 6-5 defeat in Washington on Saturday. Worse yet, the Ben Bishop euphoria has worn off and the goaltending is again shoddy in Tampa. Bishop has allowed 17 goals in his last five starts and is 1-4-0 with a 3.95 GAA since his opening shutout against Carolina. Meanwhile the Lightning have given up 22 goals over their last five contests.

On the flip side, you can take a Sabres team that’s lost two of three while scoring just three goals in the span.

I’ll take a shot with the under as the two teams have played a pair of 2-1 results so far this season.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada

Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators

Nashville has very quietly morphed into one of the worst teams in the NHL. They have now lost five straight while scoring just five goals in the process. They’ve now dropped eight of nine and have won just six times in their last 22.

The question is: do you want to lay juice with the Red Wings considering they have lost three straight and six of eight.

I think under is the best of the NHL picks here as the Red Wings score just 2.25 goals per game on the road (21st in the NHL) while the Preds score 2.52 at home (27th).
