NHL Betting: Sunday Picks
Later on in the evening, NBC Sports Network will have the Washington Capitals-New York Rangers contest at 6:00 PM ET.
Here’s a look at our daily picks:
Record: 42-50 (-751)
Pittsburgh Penguins at Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are coming off a big 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins but that doesn’t mean too much to me. For some reason, they have Boston’s number. Other than their two wins against Boston, the Sabres are just 2-9 in their last 11.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been excellent on the road this season and they’ve had Ryan Miller’s number. He’s just 1-5-0 with a 4.03 GAA against them in his last seven against Pittsburgh.
I do like the Penguins but because of the juice I’ll take the over for this NHL pick instead. I see both teams doing their fair share of scoring.
NHL Picks: Over 5.5 at Bodog
Calgary Flames at Dallas Stars
In this matchup, we’re expecting to see two backup goaltenders as waiver wire scrub Joey MacDonald will be in net for the Flames while the Stars, who placed starter Kari Lehtonen on injured reserve, will start Richard Bachman.
That being the case, I’ll be taking the over. The Flames give up goals quite easily anyhow and the fact that they’re with a backup on the road won’t help their cause. Take the over.
NHL Picks: Over 5.5 at BetOnline
Boston Bruins at Winnipeg Jets
The Boston Bruins-Winnipeg Jets total sits at 5.5 on the NHL odds board, but that’s a bit high when you consider how feeble these two teams have been on offense. The Jets have scored the fewest goals of any team in the Eastern Conference with 33 while the Bruins are just one better with 34.
Although Ondrej Pavelec is liable to implode at any point, I still like the under in this spot.
NHL Picks: Under 5.5 at Pinnacle[gameodds]7/218655/43/us[/gameodds]
