NHL Betting: Thursday Picks
It’s been a rough go of things recently as our free NHL picks have really stunk up the joint. However, if you’re fading – as a few people have mentioned to me on Twitter – then you’re in good shape. Let’s see what Thursday holds for us:
Record: 38-46 (-776)
Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning
While the Washington Capitals were a defensive-minded team last season, they’ve morphed back into an offensive unit this year. They’ve scored 11 goals in their last two games. That should continue against Tampa Bay’s feeble defense on Thursday.
The Lightning have the league’s most potent offense as they have a league-high 46 goals so far. Consider that the combined scoring in the Caps last five games has been 7.4 and we’re probably looking at an over.
NHL Picks: Over 5.5 at BetOnline
Phoenix Coyotes at Nashville Predators
I think the under is probably a good play in this game but with all the juice there, I’ll take a flier with Phoenix. Nashville is probably properly priced – say that 10 times fast – on the NHL odds here but I like the Coyotes as they’ve been playing really well of late. They’ve won four of five with the lone loss coming to Chicago.
The Coyotes ousted the Predators in the playoffs last year, so they are very familiar with how to play them and how to beat them. I’ll take a shot with them continuing that trend on Thursday.
NHL Picks: Coyotes +120 at Bovada
Montreal Canadiens at Florida Panthers
I find it tough to ride with the Florida Panthers in any situation these days. Outside of wins against Buffalo, Winnipeg and Philadelphia – all teams that are struggling – they’ve done nothing this year. They are 0-3 against teams with a winning record.
I think the Habs have the better goaltender in this matchup and the better team. Since it’s basically a PICK, I think they are worth a play.
