NHL Betting: Friday Picks
Record: 130-150 (-1082)
New York Rangers at Buffalo Sabres
I like the New York Rangers in this spot as you don’t have to lay a lot of juice with them on the NHL odds. In terms of motivation, they need this game a whole lot more than the Buffalo Sabres do and although the Rangers are in a back-to-back, they’ve been playing well so the momentum should carry over. The Rangers have now won six of their last nine.
NHL Pick: Rangers -120 at Pinnacle
Nashville Predators at Chicago Blackhawks
I see little reason to change our pattern of betting against the Nashville Predators. On Friday, they are facing the top team in the Western Conference and the Preds have nothing to play for. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks have lots of momentum as they’ve won six straight.
Chicago’s goaltenders have allowed just seven goals in their last six games, so when you combine that with Nashville’s impotent offense, we can comfortably add the Blackhawks puck line to our NHL picks.
NHL Pick: Blackhawks -1.5 +110 at Bovada
Edmonton Oilers at Colorado Avalanche
I think we’re overreacting a little bit here with the Colorado Avalanche’s recent “hot streak”. Yes, they are 2-0-2 in their last four but they are still the worst team in the league. I would refrain from laying any juice with them.
The Oilers have lost six straight overall but have won three of four against Colorado this season. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk is 4-2-0 with a 1.51 GAA in his last six starts in Colorado. Meanwhile, Semyon Varlamov has been activated and could start on Friday. He’s got a 3.28 GAA in his last four against Edmonton while losing three of those games.
This is a bit of a coin toss but I’ll take a flier with the Oilers since they are the underdog.
