After just six games in total over the last two nights, the NHL roars back with 10 games on Tuesday. We’ve looked through the sizable menu and found our three favorite hockey picks of the night.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Buffalo Sabres
Odds: Red Wings -205
The Buffalo Sabres have decided that it’s no longer important to them to score goals, which is why they’ve lost seven straight and 11 of 13. During this seven-game losing streak, they have scored a total of eight goals. On Tuesday, they’ll welcome the Detroit Red Wings, who will start Peter Mrazek between the pipes. His job should be fairly easy for the reasons mentioned along with the fact that Buffalo is missing a couple of key weapons in Brian Gionta and Chris Stewart. Mrazek has played well of late, posting a 1.96 GAA in his last seven outings.
Only one of the Red Wings last five games has seen more than five goals as they’re averaging just 2.07 goals per game over their last 14. That being the case, we should see a low-scoring affair here.

Florida Panthers vs. Winnipeg Jets
Odds: Jets -140
The Florida Panthers are on a bit of a roll right now, which is why I’ll be taking a shot with them in this spot. They have won three straight and are now 8-3-1 in their last 12 games. They’ll be in a bit of a tough spot as this will be their last game in a six-game road trip but they’ll be facing a Winnipeg Jets team that has not been playing well of late. The Jets have dropped six of their last eight games and have really been a weak team. They haven’t even been very reliable at home as they’ve lost four of five at the MTS Centre. With Roberto Luongo playing well right now (8-1-1 with a 1.91 GAA in his last 11 starts) and the Panthers being a medium-sized road dog in this spot, make Florida your NHL pick.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Odds: Hurricanes -126
The Carolina Hurricanes have shown some life of late, going 3-1-1 in their last five games but this still isn’t a team that I trust. Their goaltending situation is so-so as Cam Ward has a 2.47 GAA and .905 save percentage this month, so think about this when looking over our NHL odds. Their players are being shopped on the trade block (Eric Staal) and overall, they don’t play particularly well against teams above .500.
On Tuesday, they’ll be hosting the Avalanche, who have been playing much better of late. Entering Monday, they had won five of six thanks to strong goaltending from Semyon Varlamov. This is another spot where they can pick up a win against a stumbling side. The Hurricanes score just 2.21 goals per game at home, which is the third-worst mark in the league. Even though the Avs are in a back-to-back on the road, this is a winnable game for them. We should be getting the better team here with the better price.
