Our NHL consultant details his two hottest totals on the Saturday card. His focus will be on the games between Washington/Montreal and Dallas/Winnipeg. He culminates with his free picks on the totals.

Washington vs. Montreal 1:05 PM ET
Total:
5.0
Sizing up Both Clubs
The Montreal Canadiens have gone under the NHL odds total in their previous three contests, and also went over the total in only one of their last seven games overall. Carey Price has been red-hot in goal for Montreal. Price has compiled an excellent .958 save percentage during his last four starts, and none of those games went over the total. His adversary on the opposite end of the ice tonight will be the Capitals Braden Holby. The Washington goaltender has seen just eight of his twenty-three road starts (34.8%) go over the total this season, and much of that can be attributed to his stellar .923 save percentage in those contests.

Precursor to a Wagering Advantage
The Washington Capitals are coming off a 4-0 Metropolitan Division win versus the Pittsburgh Penguins in their previous game. The Montreal Canadiens are coming off a 1-0 road win versus the New York Rangers in their last outing. The combination of these two results creates a very profitable betting system on the total in this contest. I’m going to utilize this specific betting angle in order to make one of my NHL picks on Saturday.

Betting System
Any team (Washington) coming off a win versus an opponent from within their own division, and is facing a team coming off a road win in which they shutout their opponent, has seen that team go under the total in 60 of those 89-games (67.4%) since 1997.

Dallas Stars vs. Winnipeg Jets 7:05 PM ET
Total:
5.5
What’s the Scoop
The Dallas Stars are coming off a 6-3 road win at Ottawa in their previous game. The Stars have gone over the total in all five of their games this season following a road win in which they scored 4-goals or more. Despite their defensive breakdowns in their previous two games, the Winnipeg Jets have allowed an average of only 1.8 goals per contest during their last five at home.

Prerequisite to a NHL Betting Angle
The Dallas Stars have allowed three goals or more in each of their previous five games. The Winnipeg Jets have had an uneventful return from the all-star break, losing 5-3 at Pittsburgh and 5-2 at Philadelphia. This current data provides us with a successful NHL betting system which is illustrated below.

Betting System
Any road team (Dallas) which has allowed 3-goals or more in each of their previous three games, versus an opponent (Winnipeg) that’s allowed 5-goals or more in each of their previous two games, has seen that road team go under the total in 54 of those 77-games (70.1%) since 1997.
