The Flames have been a respectable 19-15-2 at home. The Jets clearly are on equal footing with the Flames but not on the road. See my NHL picks on who will come out ahead.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames
This is the time of year when you really see what organization has the winning culture brewing but just doesn't have the pieces yet.  This is important information going into next year.  I want to see who is still playing hard like the Toronto Maple Leafs and who is more worried about ping pong balls.  In tonight's match-up I have much more confidence in the Flames, not just because they are at home but because the Winnipeg Jets have some many injuries or players not 100%.  Their best defensemen, Dustin Byfuglien has the flu and will be a game time decision while arguably their top center, Bryan Little, is out for the rest of the season with a fractured vertebrae.

When wagering on the NHL odds boards we try to catch teams at a point where we may be able to ride a winning streak.  Recognizing when a team is about ready to hot is essential to winning consistently.  The Calgary Flames went in to St. Louis on Monday and layed six goals on them.  This at a time when the Blues were riding a six game win streak and in the thick of the race in the Central.

I like to read and listen to comments coming out of lockerooms of teams who are essentially done for the year.  Flames defensemen, Dougie Hamilton, used the word pride when describing how his team is playing now.  That's a description I want to financially back as my NHL pick

The last two meeting in Calgary have the Flames outscoring the jets by a 9-3 margin. The Jets on the road have always been a good go against spot but versus teams with a winning home record that play becomes stronger.  In their last 25 games against teams with a winning home record the Jets have dropped 18 of 25 and 8 of 10 at Calgary.

The Winnipeg Jets have a tremendous amount of injuries to overcome as well.  Their best defensemen, Dustin Byfuglien is suffering from the flu and has been listed as a game time decision.  Word is that he's had trouble keeping food down so even if he does play the question will be at what percentage will he be playing at.  Bryan Little suffered a fractured vertebrae and is out for the season.  His 42 points in 57 games has been missed over the last few weeks.

Betting Analysis
The Jets are not a team that has quality streaks so I can't take much from their solid wins against Vancouver and Colorado.  There is a difference backing a team that you feel is going to go on a winning streak because you feel they've underachieved and a team that has over achieved and their streak will come to an end soon.

The price on this is Calgary -115 which is down from it's opening number of -126.  There is tremendous value on the Flames side so get them now. Check out our top hot plays for tonight and melt the ice with your picks. @DanaLaneSports.
