Friday is a quiet night in the NHL, so don’t worry, you’ll be able to focus mostly on the college basketball madness. For those looking for some NHL action, here’s a preview of three of the four games on the night:

New York Rangers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets are in a back-to-back situation after playing in Montreal last night. On Friday, they’ll be hosting the New York Rangers in an important matchup with playoff implications. These two teams are tied for seventh in the East and both need points to stay afloat.

Although the Blue Jackets played last night and fatigue could factor, I still have a bit more faith in them. They’ve won five of six at home and seven of 10 overall. The Rangers are just 4-6 in their last 10.

Pick: Blue Jackets -106 at BetOnline

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks are once again asking bettors to lay a lot of juice on the NHL odds, this time in the -220 neighborhood. If you’re adding them to your sports picks, keep in mind that Blackhawks leading scorer Patrick Kane is out and the Hurricanes have won nine of the last 13 meetings in this series.

I don’t like either side in this one – although Chicago probably wins – so I’ll go with the under. It’s cashed in each of the last two meetings and 16 of the 23 times the Hurricanes have played a Western Conference opponent this year. It’s also come through in six straight Blackhawks outings.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bodog

Nashville Predators vs. Calgary Flames
The Predators’ season has all but come to an end. The return of Pekka Rinne has not helped them as they’ve lost three straight and 10 of 14. In their last three losses, they’ve been outscored 11-2.

They’re on a western Canadian road trip and this will be their third game in four nights. Their stop in Calgary won’t be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination as the Flames have won three of four. They’ve been a competitive team since mid-January, going 12-7-0 in the process. They’re the better choice for our NHL picks here.

Pick: Flames -115 at BetMarathon
