It’s Friday in the NHL and we’ve got six games on the map. We’ve highlighted three of them below to provide some insight and a pick.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Columbus Blue Jackets

I’m not entirely sure why we’re expected to lay juice with the Blue Jackets with our NHL picks on Friday. The Leafs have lost two of three but Columbus has been nothing special this season. They’ve won two straight but prior to that, had lost four straight. They are just 2-2-0 at home while the Leafs are 3-1-0 on the road.

Toronto should get a boost from the return of David Clarkson, who started the season by serving a 10-game suspension. He’ll be making his debut in this one. There’s just too much value to pass up on the Leafs here.

NHL Pick: Leafs +115 on the NHL Odds Line

Carolina Hurricanes @ Colorado Avalanche

I’m definitely surprised that we’re still seeing totals of 5.5 in games involving the Avalanche. Either it’s the oddsmakers or the bettors, but they’ve been slow to pick up on just how strong this team is defensively. The Avs shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday and have now allowed just 12 goals in nine games. What’s more impressive is that four of those came in one game (their only loss), which means that they’ve allowed an average of one goal per game throughout their other eight games.

The Hurricanes are nothing special and they’ll be in a back-to-back situation. Look for them to be a bit sluggish and for the Avs defense to dictate the pace. Take the under with your NHL picks.

Vancouver Canucks @ St. Louis Blues

This game is all about rest to me. The Canucks have had a busy week as they’ve played Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and now Friday. Not only is that three games in four nights, that’s also four games in six nights. On top of that, all of those games have been on the road and Friday’s affair is their last in a grueling seven-game road trip.

As for the Blues, they’ve been off for an entire week. They’ll be fresh and ready for this one. Add the Blues to your sports picks.
