NHL Betting: Friday Picks
Friday’s card in the NHL features seven games in total and we’ve got five of them covered for you. You’ll be able to find individual previews of the Minnesota Wild - Anaheim Ducks game as well as the Chicago Blackhawks - Vancouver Canucks contest. Along with that, we’ve got our daily free picks below for the three games we’ve got circled.
Record: 23-29 (-497)
Winnipeg Jets at Tampa Bay Lightning
The Winnipeg Jets went toe-to-toe with the Florida Panthers on Thursday night and now, on short rest, have to go to Tampa Bay and battle one of the better teams in the East. The knee-jerk reaction here is to take the Lightning and there’s a very good chance they win but the NHL odds makers have made them a significant favorite at -160 and that might make you pause.
Instead, I like the over in this game. The Jets have had a tough time on the road recently as their defense has been coughing up goals all over the place. They gave four to Montreal on Tuesday and six to Florida on Thursday. The Lightning have a better offense than both of those teams and that means we should see at least three from them as well.
The rested Lightning should be able to exploit the fatigued Jets, who are in their third game in four nights. Look for lots of goals.
NHL Picks: Over 6 at Bet365
Phoenix Coyotes at Dallas Stars
The Phoenix Coyotes have been struggling mightily and that should continue on Friday when they visit the Dallas Stars. The Coyotes have just two wins on the season but people making sports picks on this game should note that the Coyotes have played five home games and just two away games. One of those away games was a 4-3 loss in Dallas and there is good reason to believe they are en route for another loss there.
The Coyotes have allowed nine goals in two road games this season and while Chad Johnson has looked good so far in two spot starts, playing on the road will up the challenge for him.
Dallas has lost four straight and five of six but they have played four road games this season. At home, they are still a 1-1-1, which is better than their road record (1-3-0). Look for the Stars to get back in the win column on Friday for one of your hockey picks.
NHL Picks: Stars -125 at Pinnacle
Ottawa Senators at Carolina Hurricanes
The Ottawa Senators took a big blow when they found out that top line center Jason Spezza is going to be out a while. While the Sens get the job done with balanced scoring, it will be a big loss not to have Spezza in the lineup. He’s one of their best weapons and he’s truly an elite playmaker.
The Sens could be in tough on Saturday in Carolina as they don’t have much success there. The Hurricanes are 8-0-1 in the last nine games they’ve hosted in this series. They’ve also won five of seven in this series. Cam Ward plays pretty well against Ottawa at home as he’s 6-1-1 with a 1.97 GAA against them at home.
