There are eight games in the NHL on Friday night, which is a bit more activity than we’re used to. That being said, which of these games have we decided to focus on with our NHL picks?

Normally, Fridays are a bit quieter before the storm on Saturdays. This Saturday in particular, 26 of the 30 teams will be in action, so we’ll have to take a number of back-to-back situations into account.

But let’s not put the applecart before the horse. We’ll deal with Saturday on Saturday, so for now, here’s a look at our Friday selections.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins offense has gone cold as they haven’t been doing much scoring recently. They averaged 3.75 goals per game in their first eight games but since then they have scored just 10 goals in their last five. Why they continue to win games is because their defense has tightened up. They are allowing just 2.38 goals per game and combined with the fact that Columbus has allowed the third-fewest goals in the Eastern Conference, I think we’ll get a low-scoring game on Friday. Take the under with your sports picks.

New York Islanders vs. Ottawa Senators

The Islanders have allowed at least three goals in five straight games while the Senators have allowed 11 in their last two. The Sens are allowing an NHL-worst 37 shots per game while both teams are allowing 3.08 goals per game. Since we’ve got a total of 5.5 and their averages are over that number, we should see a high-scoring affair. Take the over with your NHL picks.

NHL Pick: Over 5.5 at Bodog

St. Louis Blues vs. Florida Panthers

The Blues are laying quite a hefty price on the NHL odds (around -190) and while that’s a bit expensive, laying the puck line seems to make sense. They’ve won three straight in this series while outscoring the Panthers 13-2, so there is some evidence showing that the Blues are capable of winning by more than just one. The Blues have yet to lose in regulation on the road (2-0-1) while the Panthers are just 2-3-2 at home this season.

NHL Pick: Blues -1.5 at Pinnacle
