St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets
Those who had faith in the Jets this season (read: me) have been burned badly by this team. The answer to the question “are they ready to take the next step?” has turned out to be an emphatic ‘no’. Their 3-4-0 record doesn’t look that bad but when you consider that they started 2-0-0, it means that they enter Friday’s game after losing four of their last five. NHL odds also have opened the lines with the Jets listed as small dogs in tonight's matchup.
There’s no way you can take the Jets in this spot. The Blues have been excellent this season as they are 5-1-0 with their only loss coming to the undefeated San Jose Sharks. About the only hope the Jets have is that they are overlooked by the Blues because it’s a back-to-back situation for St. Louis and they are coming off a win over the Stanley Cup champions.
Pick: Blues -119 at Pinnacle
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks have been fairly impressive to start the season as they are 5-1-0 and enter Friday’s contest on a five-game winning streak. What’s even more impressive is that they’re getting the job done without the help of their power play. So far this season, they are a league-worst 1-for-23 on the power play.
The Coyotes have also been very competitive. They are 3-0-1 in their last four games and have been scoring goals at a healthy clip. They’ve notched 16 goals in that span, which is quite good for them.
However, I expect the Ducks defense and goaltending to take the lead in this game. People who make their sports picks should note that they’ve allowed just three goals in their home games this season. Overall, they’ve allowed just eight goals in their last five games as well. I’ll take the under with my NHL picks here.
