It’s a quiet one on Friday, which means our selection is very limited. On top of that, it’s a very ugly card of games that I’d rather not be betting.

NHL Betting: Friday Picks

Nonetheless, we’ve already singled off the Predators-Flames matchup in an individual preview, so here’s a look at the other two games on the schedule for Friday.

Record: 83-95 (-635)

New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers

This is one game that I didn’t want to bet on Wednesday and it’s one that I’d prefer to avoid here too. Regardless, these two teams finish up their home-and-home and the first thought will be how anyone can bet the Flyers – especially when the NHL odds makers are forcing you to lay about -150 with them – considering the Devils just skated circles around them in a 5-2 win on Wednesday. Worst yet, the Flyers talked about playing with an added sense of urgency on Wednesday yet they were still flattened.

The Flyers have lost four of five and have now lost to New Jersey three times this season. They’ve given up 13 goals in those games while scoring just five themselves. There’s no way you can bet Philadelphia here but New Jersey has lost five straight on the road. I’ll hope that with Johan Hedberg in net, we get some goals for an over. I can’t bring myself to take a side.

Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers

What does one make of the Detroit Red Wings? You’d like to think that they have it in them to be one of the better teams in the Western Conference but a three-game losing streak and just a 12-15 true record says otherwise. The Red Wings have been one of the league’s worst road teams this season. At 3-8, only Columbus and Calgary have been less trustworthy away from home.

On the flip side, you’ve got Edmonton who has won two straight but lost five straight and 14 of 18 before that. Included in that streak is two losses to Detroit by a combined score of 5-1.

I don’t really want to bet Detroit, but I can’t bet on Edmonton here either. They are playing their first home game after a nine-game road trip and they could be a little flat. So, it's kind of a toss up for this NHL pick.
