The Philadelphia Flyers Can Win Because…
The Kings are an absolute mess. They’ve lost seven of eight and 14 of 19 coming into this game. They might even have a tough time beating a KHL team these days.
The issue for the Kings is they can’t score. They’ve had a complete offensive outage as they have just two goals in their last four games. If you’re making you’re NHL picks, it’s tough to back a team that’s in this type of a slump.
The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because….
The Flyers are miserable too. Philadelphia has lost five of six and eight of 11. It’s not as if they have momentum on their side. The Flyers’ issues have also been related to goal-scoring as they’ve scored just eight goals in their last four losses.
One thing that goes unnoticed with the Kings during this prolonged slump is that most of their games have been on the road. They’ve only played one true home game in their last eight. At home, they have still cashed in eight of their last 12. The Flyers are just 12-18 on the road, so home-ice advantage should be significant in this one.
Outlook & Pick
The Kings were dead-last in goals per game in January with just 1.60 per game. Combined with the fact that goaltender Jonathan Quick has a lifetime record of 3-1-0 against the Flyers with a 1.47 GAA leads me to lean with the under. Considering the NHL odds are so high on the Kings, there’s no way I can add them to my sports picks – especially since Philadelphia is 6-1-1 all-time at the Staples Center. And there’s really no reason to side with the Flyers either given how they’ve played in recent weeks. Under it is.
